Hutchinson – 12-Jan-2010– The Midwest Cancer Alliance (MCA) announced Linda Harrison, president and CEO of Promise Regional Medical Center – Hutchinson, as a member of the 2010 MCA Partners’ Advisory Board.
The board advances the pursuit of National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation for the region by demonstrating collaboration of key hospitals and research institutions in the areas of research and education.
Additionally, the advisory board:
• Provides input on research programs leveraging unique regional strengths.
• Assists with and offers advice on philanthropic plans to support the University of Kansas’ ten year cancer strategic plan.
• Evaluates potential joint strategic investments of a scale that require collaboration (example: Proton Beam Therapy).
• Serves in an advisory capacity to the Director of the University of Kansas Cancer Center and the Chief Executive Officer of the Midwest Cancer Alliance.
“Cancer is the number two cause of death of Kansans; I feel very strongly that hospitals and health providers should commit to conquering this dreadful disease,” Harrison said, speaking about her board appointment.
“Two years ago, with the kind support of the Promise Regional Medical Foundation Board, one of the first actions taken as CEO of Promise Regional was to join the Midwest Cancer Alliance as a founding partner.
“Cancer has touched too many families--including my own--and I look forward to serving MCA in its quest for better health for all.”
“The regional community asked that we create a collaborative partnership with area hospitals and research institutions,” said Roy Jensen, MD, director of The University of Kansas Cancer Center and Chief Executive Officer of the Midwest Cancer Alliance. “By creating the MCA Partners Advisory Board, we meet this objective and have created a collaborative model that will move us closer to our goal of achieving NCI designation for this region and improve the health of our community.”
The board meets three times a year and maintains electronic correspondence as needed between formal meetings.
