Transradial Catheterization and Intervention

Using a technique widely practiced in Europe and Asia, Heart & Vascular Center Cardiologist Claude Brachfeld, M.D., performs diagnostic and interventional coronary procedures accessing the radial or ulnar artery instead of the femoral artery (a more common approach). This technique significantly reduces the risk of bleeding and allows for immediate ambulation, minimizing patient discomfort. Fewer than 3 percent of coronary procedures in the United States are performed using the arteries of the wrist but we commonly offer this simple and more comfortable approach to our patients.
